MDD is a mood disorder characterized by a persistent and pervasive low mood accompanied by symptoms such as loss of interest in activities, restlessness, change in sleeping pattern (sleeping too much or too little), change in appetite, fatigues, difficulty concentrating and/ or thoughts of death or dying/ suicidal ideation.
Anxiety is a mental and physical reaction to perceived threats. In small doses, anxiety is helpful. It protects us from danger and forces our attention on problems. But when anxiety is too severe, or occurs too frequently, it can become debilitating.
Trauma is a powerful emotional response to a distressing event, such as war, an accident, the unexpected loss of a loved one, or abuse. Trauma can continue to cause both emotional and physical symptoms for many years after the event has concluded.
ADHD (attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder) is a disorder that affects a person’s ability to pay attention and control impulsive behaviors. ADHD has two major parts: inattentive and hyperactivity/impulsivity. The signs and symptoms of ADHD are unique to the individual.
Bipolar disorder is a mental illness defined by extreme emotional highs (manic phase) and lows (depression). Mania typically last 1 week and cause impairment. Depression typically lasts at least 2 weeks and cause impairment. A combination of both psychotherapy and medication has been found to be the most effective treatment of Bipolar disorder.
Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally. Schizophrenia may result in some combination of hallucinations, delusions, and extremely disordered thinking and behavior that impairs daily functioning, and can be disabling.
